Maruti Suzuki has officially launched its first electric SUV, the e-Vitara, on December 2, 2025. The e-Vitara – Maruti’s first electric car of 2025 – rides on a new HEARTECT‑e EV platform (co-developed with Toyota) for a fully flat floor and extra cabin space. It offers two BYD‑sourced lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery packs (49 kWh and 61 kWh), delivering up to a 543 km ARAI‑certified range on the larger pack. The SUV comes standard as front-wheel drive, with an optional electric all-wheel-drive (ALLGRIP‑e) setup on the 61 kWh models for added traction.
Design and Features
- Exterior: The e-Vitara has a modern, premium SUV look with a closed-off front grille, Y-shaped LED DRLs, projector headlights and front fog lamps. It rides on 18-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels with black cladding for an upmarket stance.
- Interior & Comfort: Inside, a premium dual-tone cabin features quality materials, ambient lighting and a fixed glass panoramic sunroof.The rear seat is split 40:20:40 and can recline for passenger comfort. Front seats are ventilated and the steering wheel is a two-spoke unit with integrated controls.
- Infotainment & Tech: The e-Vitara features a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. It supports wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, has a wireless charging pad and a premium Infinity audio system to complement the tech suite.
- Safety & ADAS: This is the first Maruti model with Level-2 ADAS, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, adaptive high-beam and blind-spot monitoring. It also packs seven airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, a 360° parking camera and has earned a 5‑star Bharat NCAP safety rating.
Battery, Range and Performance
The e-Vitara uses high-voltage LFP battery modules imported from BYD.The 49 kWh (2WD) variant delivers about 142 bhp and 189 Nm of torque, while the 61 kWh pack boosts output to roughly 172 bhp (FWD) and 300 Nm (AWD). The SUV offers multiple drive modes (Eco, Normal, Sport and a dedicated Snow mode) and adjustable regenerative braking, letting drivers optimize for efficiency or performance.. Maruti also provides an “e-for-me” mobile app to manage home charging and locate stations, and is deploying around 2,000 fast-charging points across India for easy long-distance travel.
Pricing and Competition
Maruti hasn’t revealed exact prices yet, but the e-Vitara is expected around the ₹17–22 lakh (ex-showroom) range.This would undercut or match similarly sized electric SUVs. Key rivals include the Hyundai Creta Electric, MG Motor’s Windsor EV, Tata Motors’ upcoming Curvv EV and Mahindra’s BE.6.. EV Market Trends & Government Support
