If you’ve been waiting for a phone that’s basically a professional camera with calling features, today’s your lucky day! Xiaomi is dropping its latest flagship beast, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, in China today (December 25), and trust us, this one’s packed with some seriously drool-worthy specs.
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is coming in as the crown jewel of the Xiaomi 17 lineup, sitting pretty at the top alongside its siblings—the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. And Xiaomi hasn’t been shy about teasing what this bad boy can do. The highlight? A triple camera setup fine-tuned by none other than Leica. Yes, THAT Leica!
When and Where Can You Catch the Launch?
The big reveal is happening today at 7pm China time (that’s 4:30pm IST for us). Xiaomi is hosting a special event called the “Xiaomi x Leica Imaging Strategic Cooperation Upgrade” event—fancy name, we know! You can catch all the action live on Weibo, China’s popular microblogging platform.
What’s It Gonna Cost?
While Xiaomi hasn’t officially spilled the beans on pricing yet, word on the street is that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will be priced similar to its predecessor, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. That phone started at CNY 6,499 (around Rs. 78,000) for the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage version, and went up to CNY 7,799 (roughly Rs. 93,000) for the maxed-out 16GB + 1TB variant.
What Xiaomi HAS confirmed are the colour options. You’ll be able to grab this beauty in three shades—classic black, sleek white, and the pretty unique Starry Sky Green. All of these will be available on the Xiaomi China online store.
The Specs That Matter
Now let’s talk about what makes this phone special. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is rumoured to sport a gorgeous 6.8-inch 2K LTPO display, which should make everything look buttery smooth. And here’s something cool—it’ll feature a 3D-printed titanium alloy middle frame. Fancy tech, right? A company official even bragged that it’ll be the slimmest Ultra model ever, measuring just 8.29mm thick.
But the real star of the show is that camera system. We’re talking about a Leica-tuned triple rear camera setup with a whopping 50-megapixel main sensor (Xiaomi calls it the “Leica 1-inch Light and Shadow Master”—dramatic much?). Plus, there’s a crazy 200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens, also blessed by Leica. Photography enthusiasts, this one’s for you!
Under the hood, reports suggest the phone will run on Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, which should make it fly through any task you throw at it. Higher-end variants might even get ultra-wideband support and satellite connectivity—perfect for those off-grid adventures.
And battery life? The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is expected to pack a massive 6,800mAh battery that should easily last you the whole day (and then some!). When you do need to charge, you’ll have 100W wired charging and 80W wireless charging at your disposal. That’s basically full charge in the time it takes to make your morning coffee
